The Beginner’s Guide to Edibles in Washington State

Have you been thinking about trying infused edibles but are unsure of where to start? Look no further, because here is your Washington state edibles primer!

The first question your budtender should ask you is what your past experience with edibles is. Many people have had a cookie or a brownie that a friend made, or have had high-potency edibles from medical dispensaries. In Washington State, 10 milligrams of THC is the standard edible serving size. Generally speaking, 10mg is enough to provide a nice buzz that is not too overpowering. Most edibles are going to be in individually wrapped servings, even in 100mg packs.

The key to edibles is to go slow and low; you can always eat more later, but you cannot undo eating too many edibles at once. When embarking on an edibles adventure, we always recommend a beginner starts with half to one serving and waits one to two hours before consuming more infused edibles. If you are very sensitive to THC, start with a quarter serving. Start with one and, if you feel you need more, increase by 5mg at a time. Because most edibles in Washington State are sold in 10mg servings, simply cut one edible in half to achieve this serving size.

Edibles come in several different forms. Chocolate and cookies are all very popular. We currently carry cookies in 10mg servings as well as six-pack boxes. Chocolates come in many different varieties and sizes. 4:20 Bars by Evergreen Herbal are a great place to start if you enjoy chocolate. These great-tastingedibles provide a balanced high: giggles with a relaxing body high.

If you are health-conscious, we recommend trying out infused mints! Our Swifts Green Tea Peppermints come in 5mg servings each, and are sugar-free! 5mg servings are great for taking throughout the day or evening to keep a nice high that will not stick you in the couch. Another alternative to try are our Oakor Breath Slips. They are discreet and fast-acting! Place one slip under your tongue and wait 5-15 minutes for the effects to kick in.

Edibles do not only come in solid food forms. Tinctures are a great way to add a kick to your beverage. Tinctures by Fair Winds are coconut-oil based, and can be used sublingually for quick uptake- just like the Oakor Slips. Tinctures by Fair Winds are available in many flavors: Melonberry, Wintermint, Natural, and Citrus. Infused coconut oil by Botanica works the same way, but also be cooked up to 315° Fahrenheit. Coconut oils are available in Indica or Sativa.

Because everyone is different with how they react to edibles, feel free to ask our budtenders which serving size and which type of edible is right for you if you are still unsure. There are many ways to enjoy edibles and new innovations in the infused edible sector mean that we can look forward to even more ways to ingest marijuana!
